FNB has informed subscribers on its free uncapped LTE pilot that the service will come to an end on 28 February.

The trial was originally set to end on 29 February 2016.

After multiple extensions, FNB recently announced the pilot would run until the end of February. It has now confirmed it won’t be extended.

The pilot ran on an LTE wireless network rolled out by iBurst, following the acquisition of its parent company, Wireless Business Solutions (WBS), by Multisource.

iBurst recently announced plans to migrate customers from its existing network to a faster LTE-Advanced network.

WBS has not detailed when it will fully launch the LTE-A service, but a coverage map will be available from the end of February.

Currently, the plan is to begin migrating existing clients from April. WBS previously said its LTE-A network will consist of 20,000 towers across South Africa by 2020.

FNB received valuable feedback

“We have gathered valuable learnings from the pilot we ran with customers,” said Shadrack Palmer, chief commercial officer of FNB Connect.

FNB said it received great feedback from users, which will be used to design its future propositions.

“We are currently evaluating inline with providing a customer-centric solution that offers: superior value, increased customer satisfaction, and convenience, while lessening customer angst,” said Palmer.

“Once we are happy that the product or service being evaluated meets these requirements, we will make an announcement.”

FNB thanked clients for participating in the LTE pilot and said it will be in contact to arrange an appointment for the recovery of the equipment provided.
